Rushkoff and Ellswort Lecture

Rushkoff Lecture

I believe Rushkoff made some excellent points about how the world is being run by corporations. Rushkoff gave an example about if everyone in the room was diagnose with cancer then the measure for economic stimulus health plan with raise. Basically if there is no one getting ill then how are doctors, health insurance companies, and physicians getting paid. He raises the awareness about how a corporation is reflecting everything and everyone and how it takes anyway fro our daily activities like sex and interpersonal conversations. Even though Rushkoff view corporation as a bad movement Colbert sees this as bringing great things to life. Maybe the world is a huge corporation but the equals employment opportunities, entrepreneurship, better health and school system, and overall world growth. I believe viewing the world as a corporation indicates how many businesses, the media, and people can really have a huge impact on each other.

Ellswort "Monitorial Citizen"

Ellswort hits it on point about people monitoring their neighborhood and expressing personal issues through media sources. For example the Sean Bell case, people around the neighborhood spark so much interest in the fatal incident it caught national media coverage. The Sean Bell case took place in Queens November 2006 when a few undercover NYPD's officers shot Bell a total of fifty times during his bachelor party. People in the neighborhood created a buzz about the case that brought involvement from political activist Al Sharpen and national news coverage. Ellswort point is that people can easily express an issue concerning them with media sources like facebook, youtube, twitter, myspace, etc.
